American Liberalism

A great new book is out and it’s devastating to the Liberals with their “we will take care of you” concept of government.

The Liberal Mind, by  Dr Lyle Rossiter is an analysis of how Liberals believe they can achieve “equality” by denying freedom and equality to society.

I highly recommend this engaging book. 5 stars out of a possible 3.

China Declares Beer And Pizza Offical Health Foods Of 2008 Games

Continuing its’ efforts to woo foreign visitors to the 2008 Chinese Summer Olympic Games, China’s Prime Minister Wen Jiabao signaled strongly in a meeting with top Communist officials Tuesday, he would move to make beer and pizza “the official health foods” of China.

The move came as no surprise to long-time China-watchers: “We know everything about China,” said long-time China-watcher Daniel Hellings, sitting beside his partner, Lauren. “If we didn’t know everything, they’d fire us.”

Newspapers and television carried little news of the Prime Minister’s new plans for amending the Chinese national diet. But there were subtle clues bold changes were afoot:

A gigantic banner for Dominoes Pizza was hung over the mammoth portrait of Communist China’s founding father, the much-revered Chairman Mao Tse-tung in the bustling Tiannamen Square ; the Forbidden City Starbucks posted fresh ads for Starbucks Pizza, a menu feature that was cut from menus only a few months earlier; members of the Peoples’ Chinese Revolutionary Army were seen instructing farmers on how to plant tomatoes, green peppers, and mushrooms in the Chinese countryside, in preparation for expected mass orders of the “Peoples’ Revolutionary Veggie Slice,” which is to be sold at Games events.

Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi congratulated Jiabao on his choice of pizza as China’s new national dish. “When I was a baby, my mother would give me, at first, just a tiny piece of pizza. And now, it has become a food for all the world – I am so happy,” he said, clearly overwhelmed.

From Start To Finish – Getting Your Blog Known

What’s the point of creating something no one is going to read?  At first, when I started putting my own blog together I didn’t really think about it; the whole thing was a challenge just to get off the ground. I have a feeling that’s how most bloggers get started – just using the Internet as if it was their own private diary.

But you soon realize that this notion is totally false: people are reading this thing that you’ve created. The second realization is you start wanting them to read it. Now that you’re at this stage and the novelty of merely writing posts for the sake of writing posts has passed, it’s time to start thinking about how to spread your genius over the Internet so it reaches as wide an audience as possible.

When I got to this stage I realized the importance of link-building. If you want people to stay interested in your blog, you have got to make certain you link like mad. Now that you’ve reached this point, the question of how to link and how to ensure you get the maximum amount of traffic to your blog becomes the key issue.

I found that V7n.com’s web directory was a life-saver in helping me put it all together. I got started blogging two years ago, and I’ve continued using their web directory to keep current on what’s going on in the world of SEO’s and link-building. It’s one of the best resources available to bloggers out there I think.

A-List Blogs And Advertising

When talk in the blogosphere turns to advertising, many bloggers start to get a little sanctimonious.  Blogging isn’t about making money, blogging is about integrity, quality writing, and community.  I’m the last person who would argue that blogging isn’t about those things.  It’s one of the biggest things to hit human communication since the smoke signal.  But, be that as it may, a big part of why blogs are so popular is the money that can be made by placing ads on them.  Steven Hodson has posted a list he made on his blog of the top 100 ranked blogs in technorati and whether or not they use advertising. SEO Guarantees

I’d like to talk a little bit about SEO guarantees and what I see as the problems inherent in them. First of all, for the most part these guarantees are utterly useless. An SEO company will give a customer a guarantee of say top ranking on 20 search terms. Then present the customer with a list of 200 or so keywords. These lists include great terms like Cheap Web Hosting, Quality Web Hosting, etc. But these are only keywords, these are not the 20 top ranking terms. The top ranking ones are more likely to be something like ‘affordable blog webhosting in Scottsdale Arizona’ or some such useless term which is obviously ranked number one because no one has ever searched such a useless term before. Paying for top ranking of useless terms is a total waste of time. (more…)

SEO Book Review

I’d like to bring to your attention a great ebook and it’s accompanying website all about SEO (search engine optimization) written by Aaron Wall. The site is SEOBook.com, and the book is entitled Aaron Wall’s SEO Book, with the impressive subtitle, ‘The only SEO book on the planet’. As far as I know this claim is true, and it’s so packed full of usefull, timely information that it seems there really is no need for another one. Aaron wall is a well respected SEO consultant and the owner of Threadwatch.org, a popular internet marketing website. (more…)

Google Video’s Slow Death

Most people are aware that Google bought YouTube in October of last year for $1.6 Billion. At that time it was unclear what the fate of GoogleVideo would be. Searching today on GoogleVideo I find most of the content is actually being hosted on YouTube.com and Google Video (which still says Google Video beta) is being used simply as a site to catalogue YouTube content. Umdum Web Directory Review

Web directories are not hard to come by on the web, but quality web directories are a different story. That’s why I’d like to hype a great directory I’ve recently come across, Umdum Web Directory. This is a fairly new directory which means you won’t find any web-rot or irrelevant sites here. The editors who work on this site pride themselves on their editorial integrity, so you will find well described, relevant sites in every category. Take a look at the motorsports category, or the UK regional directory. No filler here, only quality sites. (more…)

Non-disclosure And SEO Companies

SEO companies have a dirty little secret, and it really gets on my nerves.  Most people usually sign it without giving it a second though, but the non-disclosure agreement is the secret weapon of the SEO world.  Why are they required and what purpose do they serve?  Well, I hope to shed a bit of light on what purpose I think they serve in the world of SEO, probably not the purpose most SEO companies would want you to believe.
